Pros

Management team is highly adept at flexing to the ever changing environment. Great place to work. Most common statement we hear is that our employees feel like family.

Cons

The company continues to work on employee engagement. It takes a while to steer a large ship and as improvements are made, it feels like it takes too long to some.

Pros

The pension and insurance are the only pros to this place.

Cons

This place literally suck the life out of you unless you get one of a few decent position bids. Good luck though, their turnover rate is in the triple digits per month. People are fleeing like it's a wildfire and for very good reason. Many departments are on absolutely garbage work/life balance schedules. One department works usually 7 days with a backwards rotation with certain individuals getting a select day off so they don't meet the 28 day continuous contract rule. Other places work two shifts if twelve hours each not knowing which hours they'd be working, 11-11 or 7-7. Schedules can be put up literally 78 hours before you could be scheduled to work, Saturday night at 11pm. Some departments work 72 hour and 84 hour weeks. A day off doesn't consist of being on the property to clock in 24 hours after you leave. Leaving at 7am on Saturday and coming back Sunday at 7am is NOT a day off. Vacations have to be put in by the end of November for the next year. This is asinine, there aren't enough employees to require a YEAR notice for vacations. They don't communicate how the vacation is paid, especially when it doesn't add up to their 2% of your previous years W2 earnings. The IRS should probably look into that. Speaking of which, the constant errors in paychecks is ridiculous. Personally I had over 20 times my paycheck was incorrect in 10 years. This can be considered wage theft, but they play it off as "accidents". Maybe if they could keep HR personel for more than a few months. They reserve the right to hold you for up to 16 hours if your relief doesn't call in or show up. This ain't the 1950s, nlmk needs to get with the times. Pay rates for the average steel mill are abysmal. Places like Cleveland Cliffs are paying nearly 15% more on hire and have MUCH better contracts. The benefits are meh at best and the only thing worth having honestly is the pension. The union is pathetic, letting the company do what they want constantly. People being wrote up without representation and they've been told, "that's the way it is". Bull, unions are there to protect workers and it seems the only ones they protect are the absolutely worthless ones. Working at this place, you aren't important. You are simply a number or a body to fill a slot. While you work insane hours, get forced over, management is lucky to be there 40 hours a week unless they HAVE to. They'll be nice to your face and then talk about you behind your back. They're like a bunch of teenagers in a highschool playing games and laughing about it like they're important. I've worked with better management at McDonald's, and that's saying something. Tl;dr : absolutely zero work life balance, poor union, poor salary for the industry, not considered important, very high turnover rate.
