Pros

I can only speak for my location and the locations I have visited, but we have really good people. I have yet to meet a senior leader who was grossly out of touch, obnoxious, a jerk, or had unreasonable expectations about work/life balance. The mechanics and office folks I work with daily are good people. It's a good environment to work in. The money can be excellent if you are an engineer or service hand. Salary appears to be competetive for other jobs. Three weeks paid vacation for salaried employees is way above par. There is a bonus program, but I don't know exaclty who qualifies and who does not. I suspect that it depends on whether or not you demand that you qualify. If you need to take time to go to the doctor or pick up your kid or whatever, you just go. No one is watching you and keeping a tally of when you're out of the office (this goes back to the point above... we have good people who don't abuse this privilege). NOV is more than willing to pay for training if you need it and it will benefit the company. This is an expanding company, so there should be opportunties to advance (at least, if you are willing to move to where they are). We have a global customer base, so the US economy and US legistlative environment can't destroy profitabilty. There is work all over the world with NOV, and all over the Gulf Coast, Rockies, and California.

Cons

There is a strong corporate culture that values wrench turning, engineering, and detailed product knowledge. Office workers, admin workers, documentation folks, etc are distinctly second class citizens - a barely tolerated drag on profitablity. This is not meant as a criticism - the ability to design and repair tools is after all what makes the company's money - but you should know before you join that your leadership and reading/writing skills aren't going to get you anywhere. Also, people at this location tend to homestead. They settle down into their niche, don't move, don't want to get promoted, and refuse to change jobs forever. If you hire in on the very bottom rung, plan on being there for years. Oh yeah. And the medical plan sucks. The provider is terrible... they squeeze you for every nickel, fail to pay bills they ought to pay, and barely ever cover costs for drugs. The plan looks good on paper, but our experience with it has been very disappointing.
