Pros
Lots of interesting projects. Good and well rounded staff with varied experience. Responsive IT department. The stock is rising fast!
Cons
Understaffed given the workload with deadlines difficult to meet without long hours. Poor planning and staff project management. No work/home balance. Quick to fire people for slight issues (didn't finish quickly or over budget? going through a divorce? Parent died? Trouble mastering a concept? Wanting to go part time? All grounds for being fired) Very slow to hire new employees, especially with the regional manager or CEO approval being required for the lowest staff. Management regularly throws its employees under the bus. Management creates an atmosphere that pits employees against each other, while the employees (who see this happening) try their best not to go postal. Managements belief is that you should be happy you have a job at NV5, because, as they have said, who else will hire you. Management of all levels tries to micromanage, even ruining budgets by doing the drafting themselves (because they believe they can do it better than anyone else). On insurance benefits, if you work less than 32 hours a week average, you get NO (I repeat...NO) benefits. Most other engineering firms nationwide provide partial insurance benefits for part time employees. HR: Just another department understaffed. They want to do right by the employee, but they are hampered by management. If you do get hired, make sure everything agreed upon in the interview is in the offer letter, promises made in an email won't be granted and will likely be met with an offer to be let go. My recommendation: Run, this is not a happy company to work for. If you must work here, have an exit strategy planned before your first day.
