Deteriorating work environment - Machine Operator National Instruments Employee Review

Pros

Work environment is good and the colleagues are nice. Although these both are deteriorating rapidly given the current situation, due to reverse selection and increased production capacity without actual investment into production. The company is proud of it's values, which are present in some areas, but mostly just on paper.

Cons

There are never products from recent acquisitions which are extremely straining the manufacturing. They will shift some older products to be manufactured in Malaysia though. Still, expect a lot of overtime at this company in manufacturing. Every weekend, between holidays, 12 hour shifts, etc. The company clearly doesn't seem to be interested in investing into newer technology here. When they do sometimes, they hastily buy some semi-expensive machines because it fits into the budget for the year. But then it turns out that we didn't even need it or the support technicians are under qualified to work with them. Even some of the desktop computers are outdated in manufacturing. Like running the system on hdd in 2022... It takes 15 minutes just to log in and start up the necessary apps. Just to top all this off, people are underpaid so most of them just don't care at this point. Pretty much like the dog that's sitting in a room that's on fire, but we are fine with it.

Great place to work, wonderful environment and people.

Teams were let go after they were purchased. I'm not sure how it is now.

Pros

The people and the culture! Mostly very helpful, smart, fun loving group of employees. NI hired a lot for culture fit and that made the day to day a lot of fun.

Cons

Company vision from the higher ups suffered greatly after the pandemic.
