Where Professional Careers Go to Die - Anonymous employee National Life Group Employee Review

Pros

It's in Vermont. The company is not going out of business. New England Culinary Institute caters lunch. Most employees are very dedicated, collaborative and professional.

Cons

Before you read what follows, for many people at lower levels, NLG is a great opportunity. For top flight talent, it's a place where careers go to die. Despite the apparent diversity inherent in choosing an Iranian CEO, "senior" management lacks diversity and is comprised mostly of cliques of "frat boys and sorority girls." There is a basic management competence question as the prevailing communication style is passive aggression. Major project changes are dictated by whim -- with the subordinate often paying the price for management's detachment and poor business knowledge.

Pros

Good pay, nice people to work with but as a consultant I feel a bit on the "outside".

Cons

Every single person that is an Executive Vice President is a man with the only woman being the CEO's Executive Assistant. Clearly you can see there is a distinct "known" here at this company.

We recognize that diversity has historically been an issue in our industry. However, if you look at our corporate board, we're actively working to diversify and will continue to make sure we consider all aspects. We will always focus on adding the most qualified talent to all of our roles across the entire organization. If you would like to connect further regarding this, I would welcome the opportunity to talk. - Michael Veilleux, Chief People Officer
