Pros

Large employer in state of VT which brings some of the "big" company benefits that the smaller employers cannot offer. Although it is in sleepy Montpelier it is close to Burlington to commute from. Since we all meet most people through work and there are close to 900 employees there - a nice way to broaden your professional network and meet new people. Cafeteria is a huge perk - through NECI. Employees are very dedicated to their work and many have been working there since they graduated from high school or college.

Cons

A lot of change at the senior leadership level - turnover that leaves you lacking confidence in the Company's future. No matter how much they try to get out of the mold and mindset, it still has the old school culture of old stuffy insurance company. Pay in some areas you can hardly live off of. HR department has turned over several times over, makes you wonder. Outsourced their whole technology function to Keane - happened several years ago but still leaves a mark with the community.

Pros

Good pay, nice people to work with but as a consultant I feel a bit on the "outside".

Cons

Every single person that is an Executive Vice President is a man with the only woman being the CEO's Executive Assistant. Clearly you can see there is a distinct "known" here at this company.

We recognize that diversity has historically been an issue in our industry. However, if you look at our corporate board, we're actively working to diversify and will continue to make sure we consider all aspects. We will always focus on adding the most qualified talent to all of our roles across the entire organization. If you would like to connect further regarding this, I would welcome the opportunity to talk. - Michael Veilleux, Chief People Officer
