Pros

I loved feeling like I was making a difference. I was able to connect visitors of many backgrounds to the resource and give them the tools to care for their public lands. Most people working for the NPS have a sincere passion for their work.

Cons

Housing is usually dismal. I've lived in quarters that have active mice and/or ant infestations and management's answer is to use a trap or poison. It is easy to get burned out by the end of the summer, especially if you work at a high use park. The NPS often treats their employees as easily replaceable. Due to their hiring practices, veterans with no experience often are hired over people with years of experience and schooling.
