Pros
- You are working in some of the most beautiful areas in the United States. - Exposure to all hazard work can be fulfilling and allows for skill development in search and rescue, wildland firefighting, and medical fields. - Stepping stone for getting into Federal Law Enforcement and pursuing better jobs with other agencies (namely the BLM, FWS, or Forest Service).
Cons
- Working for in law enforcement for a non-law enforcement agency is frustrating as law enforcement procedures tend to be antiquated and there is minimal support from the agency. - Law Enforcement Rangers tend to be over worked, underpaid, and limited in what they can do to advance their careers. - Limited career advancement opportunities and lack of funding has a tendency to cancel training opportunities. - Depression, low moral, and suicides within the law enforcement division need to be addressed and improved. - Typical Federal "family" culture that treats you as family while you are with them, but disowns you when you've left.
