Pros
Most employees work here because they really care about national parks. Depending on your position, wages and health benefits can be good. Fair (not arbitrary) raises, annual leave, sick leave since it is a federal job. Outdoor work in a beautiful setting. Many learning opportunities.
Cons
Few opportunities and fierce competition for career advancement (in resources division) Ridiculous handling of government shutdowns (Non-essential employees may not work, essential employees must work. Non-essential employees are paid once the government shutdown ends, but essential employees receive no additional pay.) Funding and staffing do not increase despite increases in park visitation Management often out-of-touch with field operations. Permanent employees face no consequences for doing a poor job while temporary employees receive few rewards for doing a good job.
