Pros
Excellent co-workers who genuinely love the work they're doing. Opportunities to move around and advance both in terms of subject matter, pay, and location. Tons of training, if you have the time and energy for it. Often highly valued by the public, which can be nice. Get to work in the most beautiful, scenic locations in the country.
Cons
Often given the workload of 2 or 3 people. Those who work extra hours, take on extra tasks, and do it all with a smile are definitely valued and respected more than those who establish healthy work-life balances. Getting into a permanent position can be quite challenging but once you're there, you're pretty much there - which can also be really bad for when you get those bad apples. You're often required to move/relocate to change positions and move up in the pay scale, which can be hard for some.
