Pros
The benefits are the best you're going to get. Tons of paid holidays. Many opportunities for career growth if you have a degree. Lots of paid training opportunities. Tuition reimbursement. Knowledge gained from exposure to so many different aspects of industrial work flow and large organizational processes.
Cons
Waterfront workload is insane. Tons of overtime and TDY trips. Some coworkers get away with doing nothing all day and get paid the same as you (or more). Schedule pressure drives the production management team. As a result, people working on the ships are sometimes subjected to unsafe work conditions. Workplace politics... it is by far the worst here. Goals and objectives of waterfront teams and executive staff in the Ivory Tower often differ. Waterfront work culture - many people working on the waterfront are hard to get along with and you may find yourself dealing with hostility/intimidation/sexual harassment/low morale. Many of these people never matured past high school and it's difficult to not let their behaviors and attitudes rub off on you. I did not like who I had become towards the end of my time spent at PSNS.
