Average/mediocre as a company, but awfully big on themselves - Training Instructor Navy Federal Credit Union Employee Review

Pros

• The HR benefits are as good as any; it's especially great that part time employees get full benefits. That in itself may make this a good place to work for some people. • The people are great; most of my peers became good friends with whom I'd socialize outside of work. Working with friends makes the days fun and enjoyable.

Cons

• Management can be seemingly arbitrarily demanding to fit their whims; in a word, I describe the culture as capricious. There is a clear "Yes sir" expectation; if so-and-so wants it, that better be good enough for you. • There is no room for excellence. Once the 1st draft of a project hits the ground, we move on to the next and never take time to go back and make necessary fixes or improvements. The result is a giant collection of loosely connected and poorly implemented systems and processes (or sometimes no system at all). • Performance review and coaching are poor. Formal reviews are entirely anecdotal, without any measurements. I've heard a hundred times that an annual review should contain no surprises, but that is all talk. Managers get no training about leadership or coaching. Navy Federal isn't any worse than a lot of other companies (it's certainly no better), but that doesn't mean I have to settle for it.

Pros

Pay can be decent at times Met some great people

Cons

Processors are the garbage can of the entire loan process. We literally are help to such insane standards with no support. Apparently it’s been this way for years and even high ranking supervisors say they feel like they’re talking to a brick wall when they voice our frustrations. Since my time here that have been at least 2 employees that I’ve heard of that have either attempted jumping off our building or actually did jump off. Like how can you not implement change when people are so stressed that they are jumping off our buildings? If anyone is reading this and wondering how the stress gets that bad it’s because the better you do the more money you get but they keep raising the bar so when you’re use to that extra income and now you have to do so much more to get that extra income that you’re used to it can break a person down and higher ups know how bad we’re breaking down. It’s completely normal for a half hour workforce to go on mental health leave during the summer which is our busy season and still nothing is done. I haven’t even been here a full year. What is it going to take to actually implement a change?
