Pros
The training program to become a buyer is well-thought out. You really get a 360 degree view of the company from asset protection to store planning and real estate to visual merchandising to advertising while learning how to be a buyer.
Cons
The career path bounces you back and forth between the corporate buying office and the stores. (2 years at each juncture.) The problem is each job requires such different skills that you could be successful at one and then suck at another. But the training doesn't necessarily help you prepare for those challenges. It's really about lucking out and having the right boss who will coach you along the challenges and help develop you.
