Pros
- If in a "lucky" department you will find colleagues who want the best for the railway, share knowledge and help each other. - Before the pandemic most jobs were secure - pay is reasonably good (depending on the department you work in) with good working hours.
Cons
- very much likely to come across narrow minded people, you find a lot of -ist!!! if you are NOT a White middle age male then good luck. - The company does not take seriously any -ist issues and would brush it under the carpet (they protect senior managers more than all colleagues, even if the senior managers have been "officially" proven wrong/guilty). [Network Rail has been taken to court on several occasions due to all the different type of "-ist" problems caused by senior managers - all the cases can be found online on the government website] - Very difficult to change the culture of this organisation!
