Pros

- Compensation was initially very generous and got even better shortly after before backsliding after PE acquisition - Fully remote work was nice, though they did very little to try to bring teams together. - Team members and frontline managers were knowledgeable, helpful, and genuinely interested in building a good product. - Good growth and learning opportunity as the tech stack is impressive

Cons

- Questionable job security with seemingly annual layoffs. I survived four layoffs in four years, with another happening right before I joined. - Severe cost-cutting since PE acquisition, getting rid of fringe benefits that employees enjoyed, including options for personal and professional growth, and "free" time off (Recharge Week) because "It's meant as a reward and we haven't earned it this year". - Lack of career progression post-acquisition with most new roles going to India (even for ones previously in the US and EU). Appears to be offshoring of a sort. - Bonuses and new equity options under PE were confusing and underwhelming, effectively tying engineering bonuses to sales performance. - New equity grants also appear to be used to support stack ranking and try to force certain people to leave and encourage the people they deem important to stay. - Leadership (i.e., Directors and above to the C-Suite) do little to inspire frontline employees or lay out a solid vision for the future of the product and the company. - Low morale and eroding company culture. Two years ago, it was a great place to work, with people trying to refer previous coworkers and friends into it. Now most people I worked with have left in the last 4 months and the rest are trying or planning to leave as a direct result of poor leadership. - Product is stagnating. Leadership seems to be more interested in building a product they can market with the latest buzzwords like "AI" and "GenAI" than building tools customers want and engineers want to build.

Pros

New Relic truly walks the walk. I love that the company leans into a Challenger Mindset; it creates a dynamic where we are always improving and staying ahead of the curve. Even as a new hire, my perspective feels valued. Beyond the tech, the culture is unprecedented. Everyone is incredibly helpful and stays Accountable to one another. It’s rare to find a place that is this friendly while still maintaining a high bar for getting work done.

Cons

Still in the honeymoon phase, but navigating the vast amount of internal documentation can be a bit of a whirlwind during the first month; definitely feel like "drinking from a fire hose." While the team is supportive, the sheer volume of information can be overwhelming for a newcomer.

Pros

Man, this was a great company back in the day. Almost everyone is gone now.

Cons

Horrific middle management. This was all a long time ago though. The people I worked with are all gone.
