My time at this organisation was marked by a distinct lack of direction and a pervasive sense of instability. Senior and middle management often appeared panicked and ill-equipped to lead a modern newsroom, displaying little understanding of what is required to uphold journalistic standards. Decision-making felt erratic, with strategies changing weekly and little consideration given to long-term outcomes or editorial integrity. The atmosphere frequently resembled that of a ship taking on water, with no coherent plan to stop the descent. Lower-level staff were routinely excluded from important discussions — including those concerning working hours, the implementation of AI, editorial targets, and article volume. This top-down approach contributed to a growing disconnect between leadership and those on the ground who actually knew how to do their jobs. Ultimately, the focus seemed to shift away from quality journalism toward the mass production of subpar content — prioritising clicks over credibility. It was disheartening to witness the degradation of a once-respected brand in such a short span of time.
