Pros

There is a lot of energy here (pun intended). Most people are friendly and well-meaning. There was a somewhat recent effort to bring salaries up to within 50% of the market average for most roles (which means everyone was severely underpaid for a long time). Lip service paid to DEI.

Cons

Executive leadership lacks ability to take us to the next level as they are market followers and lack good ideas on how to differentiate and grow. There is very little accountability at senior levels, particularly in the Channel acquisitions team. The Policy team doesn’t have KPIs and only reports the news instead of actually getting strategic initiatives pushed through in places where the company wants to go. I can’t point to a single thing they’ve actually done other than say “hey this thing happened.” Strategy-wise, very much market followers and not innovative. If others in the space are doing it, then Nexamp has to do it too. The CED team is notoriously bad at designing and building projects, particularly when it comes to adhering to safety standards and making everything technically sound. The compensation structure for employees doesn’t make sense with BD, Channel, Finance, and Strategy all being paid essentially by salary and commission and the rest of the company being compensated via salary and a bonus that never gets paid out 100%. The stock options are a real joke. Zaid likes to say we’re all owners of the company. Sure if you have $100k to drop on the options when the company isn’t doing buy backs and talks of IPO are constantly pushed out. Leaders are not trained how to be leaders. There are too many VPs and Zaid likes it when they are in the weeds, so there is an overall lack of strategic direction as the people who should be thinking about that are too mired in the details. There truly is no possibility of career growth at the company unless you’re in BD or Channel. There is no opportunity to be entrepreneurial about solving problems. Lots of finger pointing and some are territorial to the point of actually throwing people under the bus and getting them fired.

Nexamp Response

We welcome honest feedback, but let’s be clear—this review doesn’t reflect the Nexamp where hundreds of team members show up every day to lead, innovate, and make an impact. Market Leadership: Nexamp didn’t become the largest community solar developer in the country by playing it safe or following the crowd. We lead. We push boundaries. From driving policy change to launching first-of-their-kind clean energy projects, we’ve been setting the industry standard for years. Saying we just “follow the market” is not only wrong—it’s wildly off base. Accountability Is Real Here: Every team, including Channel Acquisition and Policy, has clear KPIs and performance metrics. No team is exempt from measurable performance goals and if targets aren’t met; action is taken. That’s how we’ve grown and will continue to grow. Policy Team Continues to Drive Change: The idea that our Policy Team “only reports the news” completely diminishes their expertise and the seismic impact they have had on the company and industry at large. They have secured major federal incentives, protected critical industry investments, and are actively shaping the markets we enter. Their impact speaks for itself—which is why they’ve been elected by industry peers to leadership positions in nearly every market we operate in. Compensation & Ownership: Different roles have different compensation structures because they require different incentives—that’s how successful businesses operate. Furthermore, our stock options are an opportunity, not an obligation. They have and will continue to create real value for many team members. Career Growth: We promote team members across every level and business unit, not just BD and Channel. Many of our senior leaders started in junior roles here. The idea that growth at Nexamp isn’t possible isn’t just misleading, it’s demonstrably false. Nexamp is not perfect, and we will always work to be better. But if you’re looking for a company that leads, takes action, and rewards performance while tackling hard problems alongside the best and brightest in the industry, Nexamp is exactly that place!
