Pros

easy to get a job. no skill required at all and it shows. incredibly hard to get fired, no drug testing. I've seen multiple coworkers get arrested and keep their jobs. health insurance is good and cheap.

Cons

If you read anything read this next sentence. I had my contract looked over by a top contract attorney. He literally said "Quit your job immediately because your employer is a slimy a-hole and you are a slave". When I did quit I received threats of ruining my career. This company hires devils. When I quit boss was threatening me and told me if I quit he would place me on a permanent no re-hire list (jeez, I guess I can't work for nexstar anymore! Boo Hoo!) Small town market means the boss just hires his friends kid with no background in news to produce the primetime news. Extremely High turnover rate yet corporate sees no problem with this. Under Staffed. I literally produce a two hour show completely alone and get screamed at if it's not perfect. My boss has not watched a single broadcast since I started working there and then demands changes yet does not know what is even in my show. Boss refuses to fire completely inept staff because they are friends. My anchors have zero clue how to write, and air stories that are extremely grammatically poor and filled with fact errors. Boss would rather run stories that are advertisements for his friends than actual news. Journalistic Ethics go out the window immediately. Pay is so low (even though they make millions if not a billion in revenue) and they trick college kids into working there by promising the world. Corporate does not care about what our station does and who works there. They rarely visit stations to see what's going on or monitor their content. No staff reviews either.

Pros

I think your enjoyment with this company comes entirely from the local team you work with. My team is GREAT - For our size, we're a very high performing station in the company and the best in our market. The sales department has its hiccups but works really well together when it matters most. If you're aiming for career growth you need to be strategic with what position you start in. Pay sucks at first but you get an annual raise and I've gotten multiple performance raises (I've worked here for 5 years and I'm making almost 13k more than when I started). Work life balance totally depends on your job. - Health insurance - Great (specialized) experience - Local station recognition - Pretty stable employment (in the sales department, at least)

Cons

- Layoffs in other departments - Corporate decisions make work much harder fort he people these decisions affect - Acquisition of Tegna - PTO policy could really use a change (especially for Holidays)
