Pros
Teaching experience is positive and fulfilling when your classroom door is closed and not micromanaged by culture/audit expectations. Students are capable of achieving great accomplishments, but no one learns well in an environment of punitive discipline for petty and biased reasons. School Culture is based on white supremacist power dynamic and a white savior complex. Some campuses in particular appear to gentrify historically black and brown communities with inexperienced, young white teachers while the experienced teachers of color leave in droves. Admin and DEI teams both lack POC due to unwelcoming environment where POC who speak up are viewed as "non-team players."
Cons
Administration censors and controls student, teacher and school experiences. There is no joy when the classroom door opens; everything is PERFORMATIVE and image is everything. There is no real leadership to do right by POC in the building. Building safety is literally valued over student safety and experience. Unhealthy toxic culture for everyone in the building.
