Pros

The Nordstrom brand and reputation allows the opportunity to work on unique business problems and innovative ideas. The customer focus is something they really mean, until recently. The access to sample sales and the company discount are great perks if you are a fan of fashion and Nordstrom products. The location downtown is fantastic with tunnel access, all busses, and lots of food choice and walk ability. The roof deck is a great perk too.

Cons

The recent leadership changes and current state of the business means you will be focused on modernizing while trying to maintain those crusty old systems. Most of the people who had tribal knowledge on how to maintain them are gone. They days of perks like Innovation Bootcamp, Unstructured Time (for self development and hacking), Hackathons, the various labs working on interesting problems are all gone. Perhaps innovation will once again be important when sales pick up but for now it's all about just staying afloat. The innovators, thought leaders, and brightest employees have left or are on their way out. Don't trust who you interview with will be there for long unless they've been brought in by new leadership over the last 8 months.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience here. Innovation is a key pillar of the Nordstrom business model, both in terms of our product and the people who build it. It’s encouraging to hear that problem-solving has presented you an opportunity to experience it, however I can understand your frustration in terms of high-level execution. As a company, we are fortunate to have attracted some of the best talent in the industry, but it is the management of our many diverse skill sets that determines our future. With that in mind, I want to apologize if we’ve fallen short so far during your time with us. I encourage you to reach out to me directly at NordTechFeedback@nordstrom.com if you have the time to share any additional feedback. Sincerely, Patrick Welch VP Technology Nordstrom

Pros

Cons

The company has changed for the worse since COVID. When I came back the mood of the entire store had shifted. Gone were the days of comradery, customer focus, and taking pride in a job well done. In its place there is a new culture of cutthroat sales, a severe decline in customer focus, and worst of all a new focus on profit over customer satisfaction. When I was told that the amount the store charged for a shoe shine was not enough to do the best job I could for a customer I knew things had gone downhill for the company. Not to mention I watch a manager prey on a mentally disabled person in order to secure a sale, when the person could not understand what was being offered. Sad that such a once great company is now just another greed ridden corporation.
