Pros

- Smart, caring employees - New, interesting technology - Flexibility to work in multiple roles - Small community groups are getting more traction

Cons

- Despite a recent focus on hiring more women, the numbers keep dropping. I’ll admit that some orgs are better than others, but the one I worked in (5+ years) has minimal female and minority representation across leadership. The director-level alone has 12 people: 11 men and 1 woman. - As a woman in technology, I knew I would experience some level of misogyny in the workplace. My last year at Nordstrom was terrible. When I brought up concerns to management (grossly inappropriate comments about my body, blatant lack of respect, etc.), I was given excuses and told to ignore, move on. - Senior leadership is a joke. There is no accountability, ownership, empathy, or diversity. - The open, fun, compassionate culture I once knew has shifted entirely. While there are still great people who work there, many of them had left by the time I finally resigned.

Pros

Decent base pay, somewhat autonomous, great tip potential.

Cons

The company has changed for the worse since COVID. When I came back the mood of the entire store had shifted. Gone were the days of comradery, customer focus, and taking pride in a job well done. In its place there is a new culture of cutthroat sales, a severe decline in customer focus, and worst of all a new focus on profit over customer satisfaction. When I was told that the amount the store charged for a shoe shine was not enough to do the best job I could for a customer I knew things had gone downhill for the company. Not to mention I watch a manager prey on a mentally disabled person in order to secure a sale, when the person could not understand what was being offered. Sad that such a once great company is now just another greed ridden corporation.
