Pros

Great co-workers, good work life balance. Some nice benefits. Location and buildings in downtown are well located. Company seems to have a solid direction from the Nordstrom family.

Cons

If you are an older woman and a little on the heavier side you can forget about advancement. Leadership preaches diversity and in recent meetings has even stated they are looking for more women in management. The problem is that is you are and older woman you likely do not qualify. I have worked at Boeing, Amazon, Microsoft, NBC and HP to name a few places (yes I have had a long career). I have my MBA, PMP and Six Sigma certification, all of which are current. Yet it stuns me to see new hires come in right out of college work for almost 2 years and be advanced over myself and some of the older PM groups, all of us older ladies. This happens everywhere, however, at least at other companies it is a bit more veiled, here it is so blatant. If you are not young and in the "it" crowd you do not stand much of chance. Several older employees have been leaving the company to work for places that are more truthful with their programs. On other point of interest is this site, I had been holding off writing anything expecting the place to get better. Oddly about 6 months ago the rating for Nordstrom Technology was 1.5 now 2.2 or something. Now that leadership is paying attention to this company holder and not just Nordstrom proper the rating has gone up quickly and there are suddenly a lot of positive reviews. I am not claiming they are inflating the reviews just an odd coincidence.

Pros

Decent base pay, somewhat autonomous, great tip potential.

Cons

The company has changed for the worse since COVID. When I came back the mood of the entire store had shifted. Gone were the days of comradery, customer focus, and taking pride in a job well done. In its place there is a new culture of cutthroat sales, a severe decline in customer focus, and worst of all a new focus on profit over customer satisfaction. When I was told that the amount the store charged for a shoe shine was not enough to do the best job I could for a customer I knew things had gone downhill for the company. Not to mention I watch a manager prey on a mentally disabled person in order to secure a sale, when the person could not understand what was being offered. Sad that such a once great company is now just another greed ridden corporation.
