Pros
some would describe more than one.. there aren't any. there are no positive reasons to work at nordstrom unless you think the discount is nice. its 20% . which isn't much for the time you put in
Cons
- I worked there in highschool through college and never felt that any manager I had was ever professional. EVER. Who are these people? When I think of Nordstrom ( BEFORE my experience as an employee) I thought classy, well rounded upscale clothing. After- ha. All I see are brown nosing managers - half of which didn't have ANY college or post highschool education. As a college student I was treated worse because I had school twice a week. Most professional and corporate businesses would encourage their employees to further their education. Not this place.. all they care about are SPH. I understand, its a business, you want sales. HOWEVER: You can not run a business strictly on sales and cold calling. Oh yes, they didn't tell you that in the interview did they? If there is no one on the floor your managers will tell you to call your customers to bring them in. I am sorry but when its 80 degrees outside and you are asking me to call my customers when its my first week( clearly I have none).. I don't think you are REALLY considering the situation. They are idiots. Who wants to be called by a nordstrom sales person asking you to come in and basically make their goal for them? I never had to experience the catty business with other employees but it was there in all departments I just got lucky. People work really hard there, and are there for years to get no where because their sales aren't ' the best'. They take horrible treatment for the effort and commitment they give to the company and in return get nothing but a measely 20% discount. The pay is outrageous and to be honest I think the scheduling is ridiculous too. After coming back to nordstroms after my second year of school since I was new on the schedule I was only given the closing shift.. every day. Anyone that has worked at nordstrom knows you don't want the closing shift. Your sales suffer immensely and instead of giving someone a chance to work their sales up with a few openings.. they leave you at the bottom of the schedule with the worst shifts because your sales aren't high. It is a made to fail position and most employees that I know that no longer work there have said it was the worst place they have ever worked. If you do work there and enjoy it, you most likely are close with higher management, if you aren't . you are no one and are clearly treated that way. I will no longer shop at Nordstrom because of my years of experience there. All I see are fake two faced money hungry people with no sense of business or professionalism
