Pros

You learn a ton about how the government buys weapon systems, how to manage across up and down, how government contracting works, and you get to see a lot of very cool things!

Cons

Margin driven incentives. In the end this is white collar welfare. P&L is important but understand the best talent will not ever be at Northrop Grumman because it isn’t SpaceX or something with more prestige. For this reason executives generally “fail up” I saw a LOT of costly failure at Northrop Grumman. Their CCA failed, they can’t get Columbia submarine hardware out on time prompting visits from CNO. Sentinel is 3X+ the budget. I can go on. It’s just a poorly run company but it is too big to fail. I’m very happy that companies like GE Aerospace, RTX, Lockheed, and even GA (despite being private) tend to come out on top. If I only had experience at NGC (as a pretty senior manager who saw everything) I’d take my criticism with a grain of salt. But I’ve seen a good amount of the industry and NGC is just poorly managed. Engineers are smart, the hourly guys are great… just poor program managers
