Pros

The employees are hard working and generally competent. Salary was reasonable market value BUT the work load and responsibility was TWICE that of comparable similar positions for the salary.

Cons

Salary, though market value, was much too low for the level of responsibility and grossly unreasonable work load. The work load was close to double that of similarly situated positions in New York, but salary the same as other institutions whose work load was half of that. North Shore LIJ is unfortunately extremely demanding in their work load, never a moment to breath and have to scarf lunch down in 10 minutes (if at all), even going to the bathroom is difficult because of lost time due to the extremely unreasonable work load. Management is horrible, bullying and abusive. Every day someone is singled out by management for torture, abuse, yelling, threats - management takes their "discipline" beyond anything acceptable, HR is aware but can't do anything about it (numerous complaints), and the higher-ups don't care so long as work is done on the ridiculous budget that makes management look good. The yelling, screaming, threats, constant abuse and disrespect by management is beyond anything I experienced anywhere else in over 15 years, the turn over in this department is 40 - 50%, but nothing ever changes. No one is happy and everyone is unduly stressed and even scared and intimidated by the horrible management that makes the stressful workload even more unbearable.

Thank you for taking the time to express your concerns. While feedback such as this is never easy to read, we do take it very seriously. Our great health system prides itself on building an engaged and caring workforce as well as, continuing to support, develop and coach our leaders to be strong advocates for our employees. We have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to matters relating to alleged, perceived or any type of issue relating to workforce harassment and we certainly continue to educate our leaders on such matters. It’s a challenging time in healthcare and we ask much from our workforce in terms of dedication, collaboration and going above and beyond. We see these values in action daily and strive to return that effort in kind with rewards, recognition and collegial colleagues. Thank you for caring enough to speak up, rest assured this feedback was and is being taken seriously and we appreciate all the work you have done for North Shore-LIJ.

Pros

The benefits are decent It's a large organization, so there may be many opportunities

Cons

They put on a facade by applying for all the awards in the world. They tout being an amazing workplace with an exceptional culture, but the individual team members don't Truly feel that. Team members are always wearing multiple hats and doing the work of 3-5 people. HR promotes GROW conversations, but department leadership puts you down when you advocate for yourself and work toward promotions Goalposts are always moving. They'll promise you promotions, salary increases, etc., give you false hope, and then pull the rug under you and make you feel completely dissatisfied and like a horrible person for wanting more. They ask you to give them high ratings on the annual employer Perceptyx survey. If you don't, you suffer the consequences. They'll put together an action plan that leads to work falling on your lap to improve things rather than having leadership take accountability and implement positive change. In fact, rather than trying to implement positive change, they will give you dozens of reasons why we should accept the status quo and why there's nothing wrong with how they're operating. They are always in a budget deficit. You'll never get help. They are afraid to go against the grain and be innovative. They always ask what the other health systems are doing, but won't do more Unless you're a physician or nurse, you are not treated well at Northwell
