Good healthcare. But room for improvement... - Assistant Director Northwell Health Employee Review

Pros

Good benefits. Nice commute for people living in Long Island. Communication via the intranet, known as Healthport, is good.

Cons

It is really hard to get a job at NSLIJ. The HR dept (Talent Acquisition) needs more improvement and quicker turnaround time. They have rolled out this electronic system called Taleo but I do not think it is helpful. The resumes don't even make it to the hiring managers timely. Benefits are decent except for the way time off is done. There is a lumping of sick and vacation time into fixed number of paid time off (PTO). Parking can be difficult.

Pros

Office setting; nice people, cafeteria

Cons

Overworked and severely underpaid, short staffed for the amount of patients they intake to the program (on the clinician side and administrative), very low pay for administrative workers, little to no real benefits (PTO is not front loaded but trickled in: 1 hour accumulated per pay period - it would take about 4 months to accumulate 1 full day of PTO. Sick time is a similar trickle system so you end up taking a lot of unpaid time until you can’t), due to that it’s impossible to not get burnt out. The union also hasn’t negotiated a good contract if these conditions exist for those at the basic level. Food in the cafeteria is not great and sometimes gives people the runs. Also it’s expensive (full price despite working for the org; they cannot even give discounts which is weird considering how much the CEO makes and how little we do). Feel abandoned and not properly compensated. Deeply exhausted.
