Don't fall for this company's "values." They don't value you, they want to boost their ratings by treating you nicely - Finance Northwell Health Employee Review

Pros

Free Northwell-branded gifts (because the company is loaded, and would rather waste money on crappy free advertising than put it toward employee's salaries), decent benefits (a little underwhelming, for a healthcare organization), access to free classes provided by the company, larger community events, plenty of BERGs and mentorship opportunities for those interested. A few other perks and offerings.

Cons

This is not a review of just my department, it is my overall opinion of the company. Be VERY careful accepting an offer in this company. MAKE SURE TO INTERVIEW YOUR INTERVIEWER (they can BS their way into convincing you the job is for you). Some departments are fantastic, but those are hard to find in my experience and interaction with others. If you find yourself in a department with poor leadership, be prepared to be undervalued, overworked, and potentially blocked from growing within the company. Yes--you can be blocked from a department transfer, simply because management wants to be selfish. Employees have lost out on higher salaries while trying to leave their toxic work environment, and wanting to stay with the organization. Sometimes the only option is to resign, which I don't think HR is aware of, or they don't want to address this issue. I have seen a few colleagues leave this way. And, pay varies greatly between departments. I speculate this has to do with the relationship between managers and their senior leadership. Nepotism is everywhere in this company. Almost as if the only requirement of getting a cozy job here is to go to the same church as or be related to execs. "Big shots" within the company, are treated like celebrities. They make appearances at company events, and we're supposed to revere and be inspired by them. There is a Facebook group for employees, and they will post photos of themselves with the CEO acting like they met a god. Re: Sandra Lindsay, you should have chosen someone who could use the money (and movie premiers, meeting the president, winning a Nobel Peace Prize...etc.), not someone who was already making six figures before she became someone important. I roll my eyes everytime Northwell has a new show on Netflix. Props to the Marketing department for making employees and the community think Northwell is as great as they say. I thought I was making a positive impact when I first joined almost ten years ago. After spending so much time seeing the ins and outs of this company, I have lost so much faith in what the organization's objective truly is. They are out here to make money just like any other company (don't be fooled by their claim that they're "not for profit").

Pros

Office setting; nice people, cafeteria

Cons

Overworked and severely underpaid, short staffed for the amount of patients they intake to the program (on the clinician side and administrative), very low pay for administrative workers, little to no real benefits (PTO is not front loaded but trickled in: 1 hour accumulated per pay period - it would take about 4 months to accumulate 1 full day of PTO. Sick time is a similar trickle system so you end up taking a lot of unpaid time until you can’t), due to that it’s impossible to not get burnt out. The union also hasn’t negotiated a good contract if these conditions exist for those at the basic level. Food in the cafeteria is not great and sometimes gives people the runs. Also it’s expensive (full price despite working for the org; they cannot even give discounts which is weird considering how much the CEO makes and how little we do). Feel abandoned and not properly compensated. Deeply exhausted.
