Pros

The health insurance cost and coverage is amazing (provided you stay within Northwell which is not an issue on Long Island), and they provide a rebate if you do basic health activities including a simple 5-minute survey! Qualifies for PSLF. WLB is solid in this department but it varies a lot.

Cons

Nepotism at its max. Someone who is related to a higher up interviewed in my department and when she was asked a basic, basic question broke down in tears. She was offered a job in my department and in another department above the pay scale. Pay is far below the market as they determine market rate at the outer parts of Long Island, and not with NYC regardless of where you work. My pay is 70% what it would be in NYC. As soon as my PSLF is over, I'm out the door. The pay frustration is seen in how people interact. Nothing gets done because no one feels they are paid enough to care - "act your wage" mentality is very, very strong. They spend all the money on growing. No culture. No perks, extras, or team building activities. Management is clueless and is unwilling (or incapable) of leading. There is far too much shouting and screaming by management. They also complain at meetings that retention is terrible but at the same time make policies that are not evenly enforced (e.g., some people are 100% remote, others are in the office only one day or two, some people are allowed to wear jeans, some are told to take leave but not put it into the system).

Thank you for your review as a Program Manager. At Northwell, our leaders are helping us on our quest to redefine healthcare, and without their leadership, we wouldn’t be named Forbes America's Dream Employer. We strive to offer a culture that upholds our values and mission, while also supporting the wants and needs of our patients and team members. Pros

The benefits are decent It's a large organization, so there may be many opportunities

Cons

They put on a facade by applying for all the awards in the world. They tout being an amazing workplace with an exceptional culture, but the individual team members don't Truly feel that. Team members are always wearing multiple hats and doing the work of 3-5 people. HR promotes GROW conversations, but department leadership puts you down when you advocate for yourself and work toward promotions Goalposts are always moving. They'll promise you promotions, salary increases, etc., give you false hope, and then pull the rug under you and make you feel completely dissatisfied and like a horrible person for wanting more. They ask you to give them high ratings on the annual employer Perceptyx survey. If you don't, you suffer the consequences. They'll put together an action plan that leads to work falling on your lap to improve things rather than having leadership take accountability and implement positive change. In fact, rather than trying to implement positive change, they will give you dozens of reasons why we should accept the status quo and why there's nothing wrong with how they're operating. They are always in a budget deficit. You'll never get help. They are afraid to go against the grain and be innovative. They always ask what the other health systems are doing, but won't do more Unless you're a physician or nurse, you are not treated well at Northwell
