Pros

Pay was decent. Fun Eastlake neighborhood. The experience of finding out what type of company you do not want to work for.

Cons

Outdated: Training techniques; Lack of material, tools and structure. Trainers will degrade you for their lack of leadership. Management styles; Treated like a child rather than a colleague. You will be micromanaged. Attendance policies; You will be questioned why you’re calling out sick, even if you have sick time and will be required to show verification from a physician. Office furniture was old, broken and the company was not ergonomically friendly. No flex time. They said there was Flex Time at my interview, but it was not true FT. It was a permanent schedule change request from the original schedule you were given at your hire date. And it was hard to get. No telecommuting. Not allowed to have your work space personal to you, where you spend 8 hours a day. One picture frame only. No headphones. Favoritism. No parking. Very strict dress code. Negative work environment. Too much paper being used. Inefficient procedures. CEO and owner did not make themselves visible in the company. Never knew who they even were.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your experiences at NWA. I am happy to report that we have been making strides to modernize our policies and procedures to foster a culture of employee development, leadership and open communication.. In the last six months, we have begun to open satellite offices so that our many of our employees can spend less time commuting and more time with their families (or get an extra hour of sleep in the morning). Further, our flexible scheduling is designed to allow employees to choose a consistent schedule that allows them more freedom. Benefitting from this option, some employees have chosen to start early so that they can pick their kids up from school every day, while other have chosen a longer work day so that they reliably have an extra day off during the week. We have been a leader in benefits administration for 60 years. In order to offer the same excellent service to all of our clients, big and small, we are still reliant on paper for some of our processes. However, we have also taken large steps to mitigate our paper usage in recent years. For example, among other procedural changes, we have developed new web applications to allow online reporting and billing services and have encouraged many of our clients to adopt these new paper-free options. We are continually evaluating procedures, employee feedback and metrics to find more efficient methods of getting our work done, while maintaining the high standards of service that Northwest Administrators is known for. We work in an industry that is traditionally more conservative than those tech companies down the street. Retirement security and medical challenges can ruin quality of life if not understood and implemented properly. As an institution, we feel that our policies should reflect the gravity and the respect we have for our plan participants and clients. We are proud of our professional work environment and superior quality of work.

Pros

Organized, benefits, easy to learn role and material after some time, and made friends

Cons

Weird, nonexistent culture (encouraged and established by management), benefits only available after certain amount of months (health 3, dental 6? if I remember and vision 12). Work from home offering is bait and switch as they are actively working towards fully eliminating it.
