Outdated management culture but decent pay/benefits - Anonymous employee Northwest Administrators Employee Review

Pros

The pay is good, especially if you don’t have a college degree. They’ve recently opened up satellite offices in the north end and south end of the greater Seattle area which means you can make your pay seem even better by moving somewhere less expensive. There are some really friendly employees that make work enjoyable. The Seattle location has an Avenue C “market” within one of the buildings where you can buy fresh food. Retirement benefits are good for non-union employees and “okay” for union employees.

Cons

The company culture is lacking... most people don’t feel particularly loyal to the company and there’s a reason for that. Upper management and HR is old school. The dress code is outdated, processes and procedures are outdated and difficult to change, the overall tone from corporate emails is stuffy, condescending or falsely positive (as in their view on the situation doesn’t match the reality). If you work in Seattle, you will have to pay a lot for parking, park in four/two hour parking and move your car on your breaks, or park far away for free, all-day parking if you choose to drive. The company does nothing to make up for this when all other locations have free all-day parking on site. I think each department has their own culture too. Based on other reviews, it seems other departments foster a good work/life balance and keep their employees motivated and happy. Certain departments get the short end of the stick. Whereas the company has remodeled a lot of the floors of the Seattle buildings in recent years, the floors where the “lower level” employees work are rundown and dirty.

Northwest Administrators Response

We truly appreciate the time you took to provide us feedback. NWA is one of the most successful, independently owned TPAs in the United States. Our success comes from our ability to provide exceptional customer service and continually focus on process improvement. Part of our “process improvement” has been to develop our leaders and make shifts in our practices to make ourselves an employer of choice. With turnover well below industry standards, we think we are making adjustments in the right areas. It is disappointing it wasn’t a fit for you but we do wish you the very best in finding a work culture that is perfect for you.

Pros

Organized, benefits, easy to learn role and material after some time, and made friends

Cons

Weird, nonexistent culture (encouraged and established by management), benefits only available after certain amount of months (health 3, dental 6? if I remember and vision 12). Work from home offering is bait and switch as they are actively working towards fully eliminating it.
