Pros

Nossaman has nice office locations near that are convenient and near transit hubs. Nossaman keeps costs low by employing a range of tactics that are quite unique.

Cons

I requested medical workplace accommodations due to an unforeseen health issue. I first discussed my accommodation over the phone with HR and received a series of non-answers or "it depends". I then formalized my workplace accommodation request in writing via an email to HR. Five minutes after I sent my email requesting medical accommodations to HR, I was copied on an email from the partner for whom I predominately worked. The email happened to use the word "accommodation" in the first line of the email, which was odd because I can't say I ever saw this language from this partner. The use of such language was not an accident. It is my genuine belief that HR immediately disclosed to the partner that I was requesting a medical accommodation and that the partner sought to intimidate me by using this word in the first line of an email right after I made my accommodation request. Afterwards, my work load increased significantly. I felt as though I was being worked to death. In addition, while Nossaman often totes the large number of female partners, most partners at Nossaman are contract or income partners - not equity partners. The contract partners are terrified of the equity partners and turn a blind eye to any bad behavior. Nossaman operates on a culture of fear. In the last 2-3 years, close to half of the associates quit, were laid off or terminated. Employees at Nossaman just disappear one day and no one knows why. I have never worked at a company where employees are so afraid of termination. The Vault employee reviews are not accurate. Associates are afraid to say anything negative. I would only work at Nossaman if you are desperate, but make sure to plan a quick exit strategy.

Pros

The firm handles some engaging and high-profile matters, which could be interesting from a distance. It offers decent benefits, such as partial reimbursement for gym memberships, CLE allowances, and some flexibility with remote work.

Cons

Associates are rarely given substantive responsibility and are often kept out of the loop on client communications. There's minimal mentorship or structured training, and asking questions may be met with condescension or dismissiveness. Certain attorneys foster a culture where junior staff are made to feel inadequate for seeking guidance. The firm also has a track record of treating staff poorly, including abrupt terminations without clear justification, contributing to a high turnover rate among both associates and support staff. While it advertises a “fun” culture, the reality is a largely empty office, as most attorneys work remotely with little camaraderie or team spirit. Lastly, unlike many peer firms, Nossaman does not offer severance in cases of termination or layoffs—despite this being standard in the industry
