Pros

- Recent corporate change from for-profit (previously owned by HCA) to non-profit has helped with internal reinvestment and rethinking the long term goals of the organization, with emphasis on improving quality and patient care. - Evidence based patient care, thanks to the affiliation with the OU College of Medicine and ready access to academic faculty.

Cons

Academic medicine - less pay than in the private sector; probably has higher than usual turnover of some employee/staff positions.

Thanks for your review! We are proud of the strides we have made over the last year and a half, and we’re excited about the future of OU Medicine, but large-scale change doesn’t happen overnight. Each step in our growth is carefully planned, as our CEO and senior leadership are heavily invested in the success of our organization and want to ensure that each decision made will further promote our mission: to improve the lives of all people-- patients and team members included. We are expanding and renovating our facilities for patients and staff, and our recruitment efforts are ongoing and successful, as we hired a record 1,400+ new employees this past year alone. We also continue to find new ways to increase employee retention, including upgrading and adding new benefits, such as access to the OU Fit program and increasing wages and paid time off for our employees. We appreciate your positive feedback. Thank you for helping make OU Medicine a premier enterprise for advancing medical care, education and research in Oklahoma.

Pros

Workplace Culture and Team Collaboration: Many employees appreciate the supportive, family-like atmosphere and strong teamwork within their teams and across departments. They value the camaraderie, inclusivity, and mutual respect that foster a positive work environment focused on patient care. Meaningful Work and Patient Impact: Employees find motivation and satisfaction in knowing their work directly or indirectly improves patient care and community health. This sense of purpose is a significant driver of engagement.

Cons

Degree Requirements and Career Advancement: Many employees express concern that strict degree requirements, especially for IT roles, hinder career progression and demoralize experienced staff without degrees. There is a strong preference for recognizing equivalent experience or certifications in lieu of formal degrees to promote internal mobility and retain talent.
