Pros
-Decent benefits, great in-office catering on certain days -World class investment manager and you'll work and meet brilliant people -Fantastic EOY holiday parties/gifts -Comp was in-line with other top alt managers but not great over time. Another review stated that Oaktree has generous compensation if we were still in the 2000s/early 2010s - agreed -On surface, highly buttoned-up corporate culture
Cons
-Slow to change, process-oriented vs results-oriented -Not focused on results that are best for internal/external constituents but rather, on creating risk-averse processes -Backstabbing/lack of ownership and at times publicly rude managerial class - Many in senior roles have been with OAK for 10-25+ years who are highly compensated. This has led to a senior managerial posse that's territorial, adversarial, and resistant. The staleness up top leaves little room for ambitious underlings to advance. -Work for the sake of work (focused on minute irrelevant details vs velocity and focusing on outcomes that matter) leading to..... - Classic finance burnout culture
