Pros
Annual leave and sick leave are amazing. Retirement and health care plans overall are very nice. Some groups are amazing to work with. The mission of the job (in some positions) is very positive and you feel like you are making a difference in peoples lives.
Cons
While there are several benefits to working at OSU, the pay is very low. You will NOT get a yearly raise here at OSU. You will be required to do yearly self-evaluations that only have negative reinforcement. No matter how well you do on them, you will not get a raise. If you are a director, dean, VP, or department head you will be paid very well. Everyone else is paid well below average for this state. Even those of us who have OSU degrees, make less here than we would working from other places in the state . Cost of living in Stillwater is also very high. If you plan on biking to work or driving to work, be prepared to pay yearly for a parking permit. Staff permits have gone up past $150 yearly. As if not getting raises or being paid what your peers are paid, you will also be constantly asked for donations for various charities and even OSU building projects and fund raising projects. One year we were giving payday bars as a thank you with payroll auto deduction forms attached asking for donations.
