Pros

The best reason to work at Old Navy is for the discounts. You get 25% off Old Navy, 30% off Gap, and 50% off Banana Republic. They also lifted the rule of purchasing a certain amount so you can buy an unlimited amount of clothes now. This is not meant to be racist but it is true, most people who work there are African-American and Hispanic. They make sure you take 15 minute breaks or 30 minute breaks if you are staying longer. You can wear pretty much whatever you want (jeans and a t-shirt are standard). You can even wear sandals!

Cons

Working at Old Navy is very labor intensive. Be prepared to run around with clothes, not knowing where they go. The only training that was given to me was to fend for myself. Nobody cares to explain anything and they look at you like you are retarded when you don't know something. When I first came in, everyone was nice, but nobody wants to help you. Nobody likes the general manager and they complain about her constantly. Also, you have to sell Old Navy Credit Cards (they refer to as ONCs) like your life depends on it. I don't think they understand that most people don't want to be in debt. Also, they tend to schedule people outside their availablitity and they will be short people (and they don't care) and you have to make up for this loss. Be prepared to work at 4am or 7am for shipping.

Pros

You might meet some lifelong friends! Long tenure if you are willing to give up everything to try to be a successful employee Good EAP program for short term intensive therapy…

Cons

Public criticism, condescending communication, inconsistent accountability, and fear-based management styles became increasingly common. Feedback often felt reactive rather than constructive, and many employees did not feel psychologically safe speaking openly about concerns. There was also a significant lack of consistency between leaders and stores. Expectations changed constantly, communication was often unclear, and favoritism sometimes impacted accountability and decision-making. Long-term employees who consistently stepped up during difficult periods often felt taken for granted rather than appreciated. Reporting to HR will get you no where. You will be gaslit if you choose to speak up.
