Pros
Good people Good benefits Nice office environment
Cons
Providers are hired to see as many patients as possible. Every minute of every day is scheduled to see a patient. Appointments must start and end on time. Meetings and Rounds are during un-paid time. Although full time providers are capped to see 16 patients a day, this does not include the time needed to complete notes, complete EMR tasks, and also respond to a plethora of patient emails. That's all to be completed during unpaid time. There are no nurses or MAs so providers waste time doing their only vitals, EKGs, and vaccines. Patients at One Medical are typically healthy, but very needy. They are very ready to complain. The company is overly focused on patient satisfaction. They do not understand that good medicine does not always equate to excellent patient satisfaction. One Medical claims it is a "Doctors Office" however most providers are NPs and PAs. Although NPs and PAs are an asset to any medical practice, at One Medical they are equivalent to board certified Physicians. This is simply a cost-saving measure. In addition, NPs/PAs are treated equally to Physicians, so they can also hold leadership roles in the organization. For instance, a PA/NP can be Medical Director of a clinic. One Medical does not provide CME time. Their compensation and vacation time is laughable. The company claims it is a technologically innovative practice- yet they still use fax machines for prescribing- they cannot figure out how to integrate ePrescribing into their EMR. They do not negotiate salaries or provide an adjustment for cost of living. What this means is a first year doctor in NYC makes the same as a first year doctor in Arizona . There is a reason that most of their providers are very young and inexperienced- they simply cannot attract the experienced, sought after providers with their antiquated model. This is also the same reason the company has so much turn over.
