Pros

Opower is a fun place to work and has a great mission. The work is challenging and the fast-paced environment is never boring. As the company has grown, it has been great to help scale its operations and shape its growth.

Cons

Salaries are nowhere near competitive, and opportunities for career growth are limited. Opower is losing some of its best talent to higher salaries and better work environments at a fast pace. The lack of 401K combined with laughable pay will continue to drive people away. We invest a lot of money into teams meant to help us improve efficiency, however all they do are add bureaucracy and frustration. In order to improve efficiency, Opower should invest in training and time for tooling and automation rather than another way to measure throughput.

Thank you so much for sharing your perspective. It's good to hear you're enjoying fellow talent and Opower's double bottom line mission. Thankfully, compensation was identified as an area of interest in the recent internal Oployee survey. The People Team is putting together a schedule reviewing competitiveness of our compensation and will be sharing our philosophy shortly. Thanks again for leaving the review and for your dedication to Pluggie.

Pros

Everyone was friendly to work with. Surprisingly well run as a company.

Cons

Not sure how their culture has changed after being acquired by Oracle. Betting it was for the worse.

Pros

Every day at Opower was inspiring - the people are smart, new ideas are always being brought to the table, and everyone is motivated to do their best work because the company is doing good things for the world. People take each other seriously at work but also have so much in common that you end up with many friends outside of the office, and those relationships range across all levels - I count my old manager as one of my closest friends and will always turn to some of the company's senior leadership for life and career advice.

Cons

Though things settled down a bit post-IPO, I'd still say work/life balance is tough at Opower. People work hard because they love what they do, but they're still working really, really hard. Also, the transition from one primary product line to multiple product lines has been rocky, particularly as oil prices have been tanking and screwing with the entire industry. As the energy world settles out so too will Opower, as long as they solidify their newer products.
