The development environment can be quiet hectic and a lot of time can be wasted putting out fires. This will vary depending on teams. Beware the team you join. Some teams afford more opportunities for exploring new technologies whereas these putting out fires teams while sink people into quagmires where they won't have enough time to do anything.
