Pros

Able to work remotely, Oregon PERS

Cons

Firing 500 people in the next few months, CEO was just given an extra $350k into his retirement plan on top of his $1M+ wages while they are having a mass lay-off and buying Legacy for $1B, very very low wages, lack of promotion opportunities, 'might' get cross-trained but will be expected to do extra work without pay increase, departments very short of people so lots of extra work and stress, cost of benefits going up while said benefits are being cut effectively giving a pay cut

Pros

Outstanding mission-driven organization with exceptionally talented, collaborative colleagues. I had the opportunity to work on cutting-edge ophthalmology clinical trials with multidisciplinary teams who genuinely cared about advancing patient care. The work was intellectually stimulating, there were many opportunities to learn, and I appreciated the culture of scientific curiosity and collaboration within the Casey Eye Institute.

Cons

Like many academic medical centers, organizational priorities can shift quickly with changes in funding. Decision-making can be slow, communication during organizational changes could be improved, and career advancement opportunities may be limited outside of traditional academic pathways. Funding uncertainty can affect long-term job stability for research staff.
