Pros

Training, the management team I worked with were great. I will write in the cons as to why I spent less than a week with Orkin.

Cons

I come from a long background of sales. Senior sales management, Territory Management and District Managment. The number one reason why I left this job was because of the Orwellian way (Orkin) treats their outside sales team. Do not get me wrong, there are needs for surveillance on associates in vehicles, but this took the cake for me. Company issued vehicle: 1.) There was a camera facing you and looking outwards towards the road. If you took a drink of water, coffee or put something up to your face it flags/alerts and app for managers to look at. You cannot listen to the radio/news in the vehicle. When you are all alone for 6-10 hours in a car, doing sales calls all day, this is not good. 2.) There is a fixed tracker in the vehicle as well. 3.) When you are issued your cell phone, there is a TRACKER IN IT AS WELL 4.) Managers in higher positions do not have to have all this nonsense in their company vehicles. I was so worried about how fast I was going (constantly looking at my speedometer) that I felt it was more unsafe to be doing this every few seconds... I don't speed, I drive normal. Account management: The territory I was going to manage had/has a rep who built the region up strong and the local Orkin management were in the process of sorting this issue out. It was my territory now but the previous account manager (who manages a different region now) wanted to retain his accounts he built, as to which I don't blame him. That was concerning as well.

Pros

Good pay, opportunities for sales depending on region

Cons

Orkin cares more about quantity over quality. If you care about doing a good job, don't work here. They will load your day up with tons of jobs and not enough time to do them (or do a good job anyways.) Management lives in their own bubble, and communicates poorly. I transfered to a new region and all services were a mess. Customers who have had Orkin for a year plus had homes still infested with pests. Prior techs hadn't cleaned any cobwebs, never cleaned webbing off siding or eaves. It was embarrassing. Commercial services weren't any better. I believe prior techs were just scanning stations and leaving. Orkin only cares if you punch through reports and collect money. If you also bring up customers that are being overcharged, management will never fix that either. Benefits also weren't great and quite expensive. Manager would also use slurs like the R-word despite knowing I had an autistic child. Just a gross place with gross values.
