2 - 3% annual raises with solid performance reviews despite inflation being 6%+ results in getting paid. Internal promotions or lateral moves often result in 10% or less salary increases; after awhile it becomes hard to stay when you can get a 30%+ raise for leaving to do the same job at another company.
As typical with larger organization, lots of internal politics and favoritism. Promotions are given to well liked individuals, not necessarily the top performers. If you can't "play the game" it will become exhausting to see promotions handed to individuals who are less competent but just present well (often young, pretty faced MBA grads).
