Pros

Great team supervises your work. You get to learn proper citation standards and write academically. You don't have too tight deadlines and can work from wherever.

Cons

I have not identified any negative aspect of being an Oxford Reporter.

Pros

Good benefits, vacation policy, holidays, hybrid work, and conviviality among coworkers who truly respect and care about each other's work and lives. OUP continues to publish some of the most forward-thinking research and will always be able to rely on its long history of excellence. The work you do here actually matters and has the potential to shape cultural development, though at a snail's pace.

Cons

This is a different company than it was five years ago and many of us are actively mourning its downfall. We put years of ourselves and our time into this institution on the social contract of mutual respect, even as we knew we were underpaid for the amount of labor and expertise required to succeed in our roles. As thanks, you usurped US management, dissolved decades of trust in the structure and its decision making bodies, actively sowed discontent among formerly collegial colleagues, and essentially hollowed out what used to be a robust and lively place to work. OUP has always had issues, like any mission-driven company (read: one that can use its mission to exploit the workers who make that mission possible), but the disrespect shown to loyal and talented staff in recent years is egregious. The world has changed. Catch up and stop pulling the wool over your own eyes. The rest of us can see through it anyway.
