- Used to be a cohesive, enjoyable work environment - Great resource availability for a Credit Union

Cons

PenFed used to be a great place to work, with a great culture and quality coworkers and management. The Consumer Lending area was filled with passionate, smart, and collaborative people. Any management shift can be difficult, however, the management put in place mid-2020 has been manipulative, deceitful, and generally hostile. Management has only hired and supported personal connections to surround themselves and completely ignored and berated legacy employees. The most disappointing part is that Executive-level leadership and HR have ignored the unethical environment that Consumer Lending management has created, as long as loan growth is constantly increasing. It has become apparent that PenFed no longer cares to be a destination employer for hard-working and passionate employees, as long as sub-par management is increasing the balance sheet.

Awesome place and people - complex and large finance operation and balance sheet yet still small enough to make an impact and build up solutions from the ground floor - creative place!

Pros

Great staff and middle management. Good benefits and facilities.

Cons

Upper Management - same tune as all the other reviews. This place is full of great people who don't know they are great. It's also full of bad leaders who think they are great. Unfortunately, the best performers are often rewarded with carrying the burden of underperformers and non-contributing leaders. In certain teams there is very limited in upward mobility. They are slow to weed out low performers and ineffective managers. All in, strong performers and high achievers might find this place frustrating. This is a place for those who like to coast through.
