Relaxed, but old boys' club - Engineer PENTA Engineering Corp Employee Review

Pros

Relaxed atmosphere, flex time, good PTO/vacation policy. Made life long friends there.

Cons

OLD BOYS' CLUB at it's best (or worst I should say). Management has been there forever, and their only qualification is that... they have been there forever. Staff meetings, usually couple times per year to announce the change of titles/offices of the management. No career opportunities for younger engineers. Younger engineers have no power whatsoever. They cannot even tell the drafters what to do.

Pros

Penta has several business units: Consulting, Engineering/Procurement, and Construction Management. Which gives the company a strategic position to be an all encompassing Design/Build Engineering Firm. So as the market fluctuates, Penta is able to capitalize with one of its business units. Another highlight is the environment and culture of Penta. Which is very accommodating to our work/life balance with a flexible work schedule (7am-9am) start time. Also, appointments or other personal obligations that may come up during your work hours do not necessarily need to be scheduled off with your PTO, of course it needs to be communicated and a nod of approval by your supervisor. The Fun-Makers group, who are made up of employees, plan events at work or outside of work for team building and camaraderie, They also find ways to give back to the community by gathering donations or volunteering our time.

Cons

Penta has opportunity to move up within your discipline, or branch out into another role -or- department. However, the ONLY limitation is you. The support and resources are there, but no one is going to pull your sleeve to take action.
