Pros
No competition from other retailers. You work for an institutionalized monopoly. Your department might be short staffed but the CEO and c-suite executives always gets their bonuses. But, being an individual contributor you really should be happy with your 1.5 to 3 % raise just to stay above inflation.
Cons
Management comes from outside and has lack of commitment to the organization. They have near sighted goals to the shareholders and no long term dedication to the organization. There isn't a real sense of internal development of employees. It seems the best decision is to always hire from outside from cronies you know from your previous utility experience.
