Great place to start, but advancement is non-existent - Assistant Scientist PPD Employee Review

Pros

PPD is willing to hire college grads that don't have any industry experience and get them trained up to cGMP standards, making it a great place to cut your teeth as a brand-new analytical chemist. Good exposure to a number of different analytical methods, including various HPLC and CE methods.

Cons

Their willingness to hire with no experience also leads to low pay relative to the rest of the industry. Advancement is nearly impossible as well. I know of several Assistant Scientists who have 2-3 years at PPD and always get told "you'll probably be promoted next year" when review time rolls around. Both of these factors lead to very high turnover in lower level employees.

Pros

Provided health insurance. Good coworkers Good exposure to team at client site If you have a good technical lead, the job can be great!

Cons

You have 2 bosses (Technical lead from Client Site) and your PPD boss. PPD Boss does not know what is going on If you have a bad technical lead, your life can be miserable. Pay is low No protection from abusive technical lead (coworkers on same team can have a drastically different experience)
