Pros
A couple extra paid holidays than normal. You get a cell phone stipend but it’s paid as hourly wage so you pay taxes.
Cons
Told you get a work truck and months later you’re still driving personal vehicle between plants because not enough trucks to go around. Told you will get a truck stipend and never happens. They will not pay mileage you are expected to use personal truck for work. Told you will get quarterly raises for cost of living increase but that never happens. Told for months your position will be getting 1, 2, and 3 ranks so that finally you with 10 years experience and the fresh out of school's new hire you have to train are not paid the same. Never happens even though every other technician position at this company has this. So as a CEMS technician here you will push cylinders with a dolly over a quarter mile through rock and mud alone as part of daily rounds. Some days might be one or two others six or more. You will be expected to cover daily rounds, linearity, and quarterly maintenance at multiple locations and drive your truck hauling their parts and equipment. This year they are switching to RATA in house and so you will be probe pusher in addition to your other duties. If you’re experienced then you are the go to person for everyone in the company for any questions regarding CEMS so be prepared to answer the phone even days off. You’re only a technician and treated that way but upper management keeps coming to you for answers for things they should know. Then take your ideas and run with them as their own. I was asked to create the qualifications for my position so I did and they didn’t like the results so they ignored them. Ask for any help at the plants from the O&M or I&M techs and if they help you will hear complaints that they had to help even though you are told they are supposed to help. So you just do everything solo. You are not part of the plant team you are a lone worker don’t expect support.
