Pros

This was a good opportunity to work with collaborative therapists and physicians in an academic medical center. While it wasn't common, I had pretty reasonable schedule flexibility and autonomy. I had good rapport with my coworkers. The local team I worked with made efforts to create a cohesive and fun environment that made the daily grind a little easier. The patient population was quite challenging, kept me on my game, and provided good clinical exposure for students. I made some wonderful lasting friendships.

Cons

Clear divide between staff, management, and corporate class - and it was visible in optics and communication. It was difficult to provide quality care without going above and beyond (often at my own personal expense and time). The administrative burden on clinicians was extraordinary given the complexity of many aspects of patient care. Layoffs directly affected patient care and I was left picking up the pieces with nearly no leadership support or contingency plan. Together, the embarrassingly low pay, disappointing benefits, and absence of any company match in retirement funding made employment with PT Solutions a tough pill to swallow. Worse yet, you were working along side hospital staff with measurably better pay and benefits. Compensation and bonus structure (which wasn't offered to SLPs) was unrelated to expertise or experience - only based how many units you could bill or by annually "proving" yourself with loosely defined metrics. SLPs are paid disrespectfully less than PTs (regardless of experience), but you aren't allowed to discuss that at work without risk of termination since discussing pay with coworkers is off-limits.

Pros

Lots of opportunities to grow if you're willing to put yourself out there. The continuing education offerings are a huge plus and make it easy to keep learning. If you're motivated, there are plenty of opportunities to take on new challenges and responsibilities. You're not stuck in one lane. There are opportunities in clinical practice, leadership, teaching, and operations. The company invests quite a bit in developing its employees compared to a lot of places

Cons

Communication across different levels of the organization can occasionally be inconsistent during periods of growth and change. Expectations around productivity and performance are high, which can be motivating for some but may not be the right fit for everyone. Work-life balance can vary depending on your clinic and its needs

Pros

Colleagues are great! Fun, young culture They promote fast (way too fast - it’s because of turnover and workflows so convoluted they couldn’t get someone external to learn them)

Cons

Why fix the problem if you could find a workaround that is more difficult than the logical solution? You will be told the most convoluted workflow you’ve ever heard, employed by 0 other healthcare providers, is actually the only option unfortunately! But don’t ask why, they won’t be able to tell you. During “crunch times”, expect to work the hours of an investment banker for the pay of a fast food worker. Maybe an insultingly meager “discretionary bonus” if you’re lucky. Heavy micro-management to cover for totally ignoring the actual problem. The longer you work in a certain roll, the less you are paid in terms of seniority. There are brand new hires making 30% more than those who have worked there for years.
