Corporate Needs to Consider a More "Valued Employee" Culture - Food Server Pacific Retirement Services Employee Review

Pros

More than enough hours. Access to on-site gym and spa. Free transit pass. Good healthcare. Good job to have for students.

Cons

In some departments, the hours are not full 8 hours. So to get full-time, you have to work 2-3 doubles a week. The job deals with retirees, typically over the age of 80 who are not the easiest to offer service to. It can be mentally draining on any employee. There are NO TIPS if you work in the Dining department as a server. While you do make more than minimum wage, it can still be seen as not enough in comparison to what servers CAN make for doing the same job. Since there are no tips, it's difficult for the company to hire experienced strong servers since they know they can make more in tips elsewhere and not have to work doubles. So the company typically hires inexperienced servers who ultimately take too long to train and bring up to speed, which then leads to seasoned servers picking up the slack, doing extra work and getting paid the same as everyone else while probably pulling a double. So now you have a bunch of young, first time job/first time serving employees who are going to school, don't necessarily need the hours and therefore care less about their job. The perks for these employees are limited... to a buss pass. They are young enough to stay on their parents health plan... and who cares about a 401k at that age? So what exactly are all the great benefits offered to the only demographic the company seems to be able to hire? $2 food that the kitchen was otherwise going to throw out because its 1-2 days old. On "Employee Appreciation Week" the administrative team and some of management, serves the food at the employee bbq... Guess who has to clean it up? A regular hourly employee.
