Pacific Sunwear

Is this your company?

PacSun HQ could be a great place to work, but mediocre management makes it more challenging than it needs to be. - HQ Employee Pacific Sunwear Employee Review

Pros

* There are lots of opportunities/projects that would look good on your resume * Upper, upper management (CEO, CFO, SVP's) are pretty impressive - smart people doing a great job * Compensation and general perks are good, especially considering company is struggling financially * Good sample sales! Decent employee discount. * Fun, laid-back working environment * Majority of coworkers are enjoyable and fun to work with. * While watching expenses, company hasn't gone into penny pinching mode (which is miserable) - there are still celebrations with food and alcohol...that is, you can still have fun at PacSun! * You can get promoted rather fast if you stick with it and have good relationships. * Decent amount of exposure to leadership

Cons

* Old-fashioned in terms of organizational strategy - jobs are loosely defined and roles and responsibilities are changed too frequently and without enough thought. * There are certain old-timers that seem to have been promoted just because of time served rather than real talent/aptitude. * There doesn't seem to be an emphasis on building management skills in the company. There is very little feedback on job performance, goal setting isn’t taken seriously and it’s very hard to get time with your manager. * Not enough delegation – too many problems caused by managers trying to own everything themselves when they do not have the information and/or time needed for good results. * Recruiting is very slow to fill open spots. * “Mean” managers are tolerated resulting in employees not expressing their ideas and opinions (there are not very many of them) * 2 weeks of vacation is not enough - especially when time off around Holidays is slim (day after Thanksgivig is not a paid holiday) * Left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing and sometimes doesn't know what the left hand is doing either.

Pros

coworkers are really nice and are in the trenches with you

Cons

-Promotions appear to happen only when entire teams leave, rather than as recognition for strong performance or career growth. -Raises are essentially nonexistent, even for employees who consistently exceed expectations. -Executive bonuses seem to be prioritized while employee compensation remains stagnant, creating a perception of unequal reward distribution. -Leadership frequently asks for employee feedback on how to improve, but there is little visible action or follow-through on that feedback. -Communication feels one-sided, with employees feeling unheard despite repeated requests for input. -Limited investment in employee development and retention can make long-term career growth difficult.
